Update 3: Ok, good update this time.
Sparks spent two nights at the vet and they kindly arranged for me to be able to pick her up after hours after I finished work for the day. She looked so much brighter, more alert, she was purring and making her happy sounds when we got home. Unfortunately, I was worried because she didn't eat after I got her home yesterday, and she didn't eat her breakfast before I went to work this morning. As a precautionary measure, I bought some more chicken in case she still didn't want to eat her normal food (as she had been eating that at the vet). I put a tiny bit of dry food in her bowl when I got home as she seemed hungry while I went to get some chicken, and she happily ate about 6 pieces!
So then I rewarded her with a few small pieces of chicken which she gulped down very eagerly! That has me so relieved, so here's hoping she returns to near 100% health
Now I just have to somehow manage to get the remaining antibiotic tablets down the throat of a quickly strengthening cat
Update 2: Yesterday I made another appointment because she seemed to have gotten worse in that her eyes and nose were weeping. Vet said she'd developed a respiratory infection as well! Good news though, I left her there overnight, they put her on IV and more antibiotics. I rang this morning, her discharge is gone and her lungs sound clean, she seems brighter. And although she didn't eat, she licked at her food (first time in a week)! She's staying another night, so hopefully I'll get to bring her home tomorrow. Thanks again for all your concerns and support.
Update 1: First off, I just really want to thank all of you for your support and concern, I really appreciate it and has helped me to stay positive. :hugs: Just thought I'd update you all on the situation. This morning, I rang and got the blood results. Her organs (liver and kidney) seemed to be working normally and it just showed signs of infection. So basically she just has a digestive infection. Mid-way through the day, she appeared to be picking up a little, she was sleeping a lot (probably from lack of food) but she seemed alert in her response to me, she wasn't going to the toilet as often and when I offered her food, although she didn't eat it, she had a really good sniff of it and was much more interested in it than she has been every other day. Unfortunately, after getting home from work, mum thinks she's worse. I think because she's already weak, she's getting some sort of cold, she has weepy eyes and nose and is still drinking, but still not accepting food. First thing tomorrow I'm taking her back to the vet, at this point I feel like there's two things that can be done. They can keep her there overnight (to start with) to see if she improves on fluids etc, although it will be stressful for her and she'll probably still be in some pain, problem with that is she may need to end up in there for days just to get better, or they may suggest I put her down. I really want to try for her to get better though and I don't know what the right thing is to do. Still, my vet has been really good so far and really helpful, so she'll know what's best.
Thanks again for all your support, it means so very much to me. I'll keep you posted.
Original: Monday 24th: Really need to just let this out right now because I'm so upset and struggling to sleep. This weekend, our cat Sparks, who's 14, started getting really sick. She went to the toilet inside 3 times on the same day (saturday) and there was blood in her urine and faeces. I worked all day Sunday but my mum tells me she hardly ate anything. Today (Monday), she hasn't eaten a single thing all day and I'm told she was vomiting this morning before I was out of bed. I rang the vet and I have an appointment for her tomorrow morning, apparantly they were open later than I thought, but I didn't realise until it was too late. I am so worried that I didn't react soon enough though or that they're not going to be able to do anything for her. It's really upsetting, and although I hate thinking the worst in a situation, it's hard not to. I really do hope it's something that can be fixed or eased with medication, but I'm really not sure how likely it is, especially at her age. I just don't want to lose her, I love her so much.
